Winter boredom. The misery of being stuck inside as the temperature drops and the snow falls. The cure for it all has arrived, as a very special Sadie Hawkins dance is planned for January. The dance will include a grand hoe-down, country music, karaoke, and refreshments.
Because the school can no longer rely on the income from Escapades and Frosty Frolics to support the MRHS Scholarship Fund, this dance and other events will be planned in order to fill the void. Proceeds from the dance will go directly into the fund and given back to graduating senior scholarship recipients.
Because this is a Sadie Hawkins dance, there is, of course, a twist: girls ask the guys. “I’m sure things will get very interesting around here, because the girls ask the guys to this dance for a change,” said senior Kyle Hanshaw.
On top of the flipped date format, the dance will have a country theme. That means wear your best flannel, dancing jeans, and your nicest cowboy boots,
“I think having a Sadie Hawkins dance is a great idea, it raises money for a good cause and it’s something fun that everyone from every grade can do,” said senior Kayla Polan.
When and where, you ask? The dance will be held in the cafeteria, near the end of January, most likely on the 28th. There will be refreshments, good music – mostly country, of course – and pictures. The yearbook staff will take the pictures for the more than affordable price of $5.
Additionally, there will be live karaoke all night with your choice of country song. Boot scootin’ boogyin’ will be going to the break of dawn! Well, probably more like 10:30 or 11, but it will be fun either way. So add a Texas-sized belt buckle to your Christmas list, and get ready for the Sadie Hawkins dance.
